The need for bilingual college graduates is rapidly growing nationwide among employers in law enforcement, social work, education, business, health care, and numerous other professions. The ability to speak a foreign language is extremely valuable both in interpersonal relationships and in service to the community. Students are formed not only linguistically but also culturally, increasing their ability to engage more meaningfully in a global culture here and abroad.

One of the many advantages of attending a small school, like Thomas More University, is the personal attention and engagement with the professors. By pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or an Associate of Arts in Spanish, students have many opportunities to interact with their professors and classmates to receive the support they need to succeed in their personal and professional endeavors.

In small classes, students develop their reading, listening, writing, and conversational skills in Spanish. They also explore diverse Hispanic cultures and literature. This holistic approach to language education forms the student to be lifetime learner.

All Language Faculty hold a Ph.D. and have numerous years of teaching experience at the University level. They all share their passion for languages and their love for traveling and discovering new cultures.

Recent alumni have become Spanish teachers, administrators in medical offices, nurses, and members of a nonprofit service organization in Guatemala. Other alumni are continuing their studies in medical schools and business programs.

Knowing the Spanish language is a great asset in professions such as law enforcement, social work, education, business, and health care, but the skills are not limited to these professions alone. The increasingly important need for bilingual English/Spanish speakers calls for knowledgeable and engaged citizens in a global culture.

The Global Perspectives Endowment Fund was created by a grant awarded to Thomas More University from the James Graham Brown Foundation, Inc. in 1996. This Fund endows the Brown Global Perspectives Grant which is available to help students defray the cost of studying abroad. The Grant is competitive and requires an application, with additional steps, to be submitted within a strict deadline period. For those details, contact a faculty member.
