Scholarships for Veterans

Veterans

Thomas More University is proud of its long standing relationship with the veterans that have courageously served this country. The University welcomes men and women who have served to apply and promises a continued commitment to America’s veterans through the participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program of the Post 9/11 Veteran’s Educational Act of 2008.

The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program is a provision of the Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. The program is designed to help students avoid up to 100 percent of their out-of-pocket tuition and fees associated with education programs that may exceed the Post 9/11 GI Bill® tuition benefit. This benefit will pay up to 100 percent of the public in-state tuition, but it only covers up to $17,500 a year for private colleges and universities. The actual tuition and fee costs may exceed these amounts if students are attending a private school or are attending a public school as a nonresident student. This is where the YRP can help.

Like the other Post 9/11 GI Bill® programs, Yellow Ribbon benefits are payable for training pursued on or after August 1, 2009. No payments can be made under this program for training pursued before that date.

To qualify to receive the Yellow Ribbon benefits students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001, of at least 36 months;
  2. Were honorably discharged from active duty for a service-connected disability and they served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001;
  3. Are a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill® based on a veteran’s service under the eligibility criteria listed above.
