Office Location: Administration Building
Bartley Richardson is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Information Systems Department at Thomas More College. Originally from the small village of Morrow, Ohio, Dr. Richardson obtained a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 2003. While an undergraduate, Bartley worked for Rockwell Automation/Entek as a QA and software engineer. He also worked for GE Aircraft Engines as a member of their Information Management Leadership Program. Bartley began his graduate studies in 2003 under the guidance of Dr. Karen Davis. During his time as a graduate student, Bartley was a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellow as part of a grant to develop and implement authentic, inquiry-based engineering-related lessons in GK-12 classrooms. He is also a Rindsberg Teaching Fellow. Dr. Richardsonʼs research focus on XML query optimization and processing and the implications of semi-structured data on query evaluation. His doctoral dissertation, “A Performance Study of XML Query Optimization Techniques,” provides an initial framework upon which an entire class of XML query optimizers can be built. Bartley began his teaching career while still a graduate student. He first taught Cincinnati Public High School students as part of Project STEP, an NSF funded program. Before Dr. Richardson came to Thomas More College, he spent two years as a Visiting Professor of Computer Science at Northern Kentucky University. He is actively involved with colleagues from NKU in an ongoing study to assess the effectiveness of introductory computer science curricula. Dr. Richardson is an active member of IEEE and ACM. Bartley is an accomplished musician with more than 25 years of experience playing the piano. He is also a Pilates Reformer Level III certified instructor.
